Why is the ignition status incorrect?

Issue Title

  • Ignition status incorrect

Issue Summary

The ignition status may be incorrect when the platform displays the vehicle as ON when it is actually OFF, or OFF when it is actually ON. This information is generally received from the tracking device based on the configured ignition input or ignition-detection method.

Symptoms / How to Identify

  • Vehicle shows Ignition ON when the engine is switched OFF.
  • Vehicle shows Ignition OFF when the engine is running.
  • Ignition status changes unexpectedly or frequently.
  • Ignition status does not change after the vehicle is started or stopped.
  • Raw device data shows an ignition value that does not match the status displayed on the platform.
  • The issue may occur continuously or intermittently.

Information Required Before Troubleshooting

Collect the following information:

  • Vehicle/Object name or ID
  • Device IMEI/Serial Number
  • Device model and protocol
  • Actual ignition status of the vehicle
  • Ignition status displayed on the platform
  • Date and time when the issue occurred
  • Latest data from the Status/Raw Data section
  • Ignition-related parameter/value received from the device
  • Whether the issue is affecting one vehicle or multiple vehicles
  • Any recent device installation, wiring, or configuration changes

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Confirm the vehicle's actual ignition status.
  2. Compare the actual ignition status with the status displayed on the platform.
  3. Check the last received data/time from the device.
  4. Open the Status/Raw Data section and identify the ignition-related parameter.
  5. Verify whether the device is sending the correct ignition value.
  6. Check whether the ignition value changes when the vehicle is switched ON and OFF.
  7. Verify the device's ignition input wiring and connection, if applicable.
  8. Check the ignition detection configuration for the device.
  9. Verify whether the correct ignition parameter is mapped in the device protocol/configuration.
  10. If the raw data contains the correct ignition value but the platform displays the wrong status, escalate the issue for platform/protocol investigation.

Possible Causes

  • Incorrect ignition wiring or loose connection.
  • Faulty ignition input from the tracking device.
  • Incorrect device configuration.
  • Incorrect ignition parameter mapping.
  • Device firmware or protocol issue.
  • Device hardware malfunction.
  • Incorrect interpretation of the ignition value.
  • Delayed or missing device data.
  • Vehicle electrical system issue.
  • Incorrect ignition detection method configured for the device.

Resolution / Action

Verify the ignition value received from the device and compare it with the actual vehicle ignition status. If the device is sending an incorrect value, check the ignition wiring, device configuration, and hardware. If the device is sending the correct value but the platform displays an incorrect status, escalate the issue to the technical/platform team with the vehicle ID, IMEI, timestamp, ignition value, and relevant raw data.
