Why is the data in the report not matching the actual vehicle data?
Issue Title
- Report Data Mismatch
Issue Summary
A report may show data that does not match the actual vehicle activity when the device sends incomplete, delayed, or incorrect data, or when the system applies different calculation rules, configurations, or filters while generating the report.
Symptoms / How to Identify
- Report values do not match the vehicle's actual activity.
- Report data differs from the values shown on the dashboard or live tracking.
- Distance, running hours, speed, ignition, fuel, or trip information appears different.
- Data is missing or appears for an unexpected time period.
- The same vehicle shows different values in different reports.
- Raw data does not appear to match the values calculated in the report.
Information Required Before Troubleshooting
- Vehicle/Object name or ID
- Device IMEI/Serial Number
- Report name
- Report date and time range
- Actual vehicle activity/value for comparison
- Reported value in the system
- Screenshot or exported copy of the report
- Relevant Status/Raw Data
- Vehicle/device configuration
- Report filters and selected parameters
- Whether the discrepancy affects one vehicle or multiple vehicles
Troubleshooting Steps
Check on Device
- Verify that the device was Online and transmitting data during the affected period.
- Check the relevant parameters generated by the device, such as GPS, speed, ignition, fuel, engine hours, or sensor data.
- Verify the device timestamps for the affected period.
- Check whether any data was missing, delayed, duplicated, or retransmitted.
- Verify device configuration and parameter settings.
- Check whether the device is generating the expected values for the affected parameter.
Check in System
- Verify the report's selected date, time range, vehicle, and filters.
- Check the same period in Status/Raw Data.
- Compare raw device data with the values displayed in the report.
- Compare the report with the corresponding dashboard, history, or tracking data.
- Verify the report's calculation method and configured parameters.
- Check whether timezone or date-boundary settings are affecting the report.
- Verify vehicle/device mapping and configuration.
- Check whether the issue occurs in other reports or only in the specific report.
- Test the report with another vehicle or date range for comparison.
Compare and Identify
- Device data is incorrect: Investigate the device, sensor, wiring, or configuration.
- Device data is missing or delayed: Investigate device/network communication.
- Raw data is correct but report data is incorrect: Investigate report calculation or system processing.
- Report differs from another system view because of filters, time range, or calculation method: Verify the report configuration before escalating.
- Multiple reports show the same incorrect value: Investigate the underlying system calculation or source data.
Possible Causes
- Incorrect or incomplete device data.
- Delayed data transmission.
- Missing or duplicate data packets.
- Incorrect device configuration.
- Incorrect sensor or parameter values.
- Different calculation methods between reports and dashboard.
- Incorrect report filters or date/time range.
- Timezone configuration differences.
- Incorrect vehicle/device mapping.
- Report calculation or processing issue.
- System data synchronization issue.
Resolution / Action
First compare the device data, system raw data, and report output for the same vehicle and time period. Verify that the report filters, timezone, configuration, and calculation parameters are correct.
If the device is providing incorrect or incomplete data, investigate the device or its configuration. If the raw data is correct but the report shows incorrect values, escalate the issue to the technical/system team with the vehicle ID, IMEI, report name, date/time range, expected value, reported value, configuration, and relevant raw data.
