Configuring Read-Only Fields for Company Sub-Users

Company sub-users may be unable to edit certain fields, such as the Tracker ID, in the Object configuration.

This behaviour can occur when the respective fields are configured as read-only at the company user level.

The Screen Access settings allow administrators to control which fields are editable or read-only. These settings are inherited by all sub-users under the respective company.

Example Questions

    • Why can't a sub-user edit the Tracker ID field?
    • How can I allow sub-users to edit specific fields?
    • How can I make certain fields read-only for all company sub-users?
    • Why can sub-users of one company edit a field while another company's sub-users cannot?
    • Do Screen Access settings apply to all sub-users?
    • How can I configure field-level permissions for company sub-users?
    • Where can I manage read-only fields in Object settings?

Symptoms / How to Identify

  • Sub-users can view a field but cannot edit it.
  • Fields such as Tracker ID appear in read-only mode.
  • Sub-users under different companies have different editing permissions.
  • The same field is editable for one company but restricted for another.

Information Required Before Troubleshooting

  • Company account name.
  • Affected sub-user details.
  • Name of the field that cannot be edited.
  • Screenshot of the field in the Object configuration.
  • Screen Access configuration of the company user.

Troubleshooting Steps

Step 1: Open the Company User Configuration

Navigate to the company user account and double-click the record to edit the company configuration.

Step 2: Open the Screen Access Tab

Select the Screen Access tab.

Step 3: Navigate to Object Settings

Under General, open the Object tab and click Customise.

Step 4: Configure Read-Only Fields

In the Customise window, locate the is_readonly option.

Select the fields that should be configured as read-only and save the changes.

Step 5: Save the Company Configuration

Save the company user record to apply the updated Screen Access settings.

Step 6: Verify Sub-User Permissions

Log in using a sub-user account under the same company and verify whether the selected fields are editable or read-only as configured.

Possible Cause

The required field is configured as read-only in the company's Screen Access settings.

When a field is restricted at the company user level, the same configuration is automatically applied to all sub-users under that company.

Resolution / Action

To manage field-level editing permissions for company sub-users:

  1. Open the company user configuration.
  2. Navigate to Screen Access → General → Object → Customise.
  3. Configure the required fields under is_readonly.
  4. Save the configuration.
  5. Verify the updated permissions using a company sub-user account.

Important Notes:

  • Screen Access settings configured at the company user level apply to all sub-users under that company.
  • Fields selected under is_readonly cannot be edited by the applicable users.
  • Different companies can have different Screen Access configurations.
  • To apply the same field permissions across multiple companies, the configuration must be reviewed and updated for each relevant company.
