Harsh Cornering Alert

Definition / Description

The Harsh Cornering Alert is triggered when a vehicle takes a sharp or abrupt turn while in motion. This behavior indicates that the driver has performed an aggressive cornering maneuver, which may compromise vehicle stability and passenger or cargo safety. The alert is device-specific and relies on acceleration or gyroscopic data received from the installed tracking device. By monitoring harsh cornering incidents, fleet managers can assess driver performance, reduce vehicle wear and tear, and enhance overall road safety. A notification can be received as an action whenever this alert is triggered.

How to Configure

  1. Select the Company and Branch.
  2. Under Based On, choose one of the following options: Object, Object Group ot Object Type.
  3. Select the Object (vehicle) where the alert should be applied.
  4. Enter an Alert Name (e.g., “Harsh Cornering”).
  5. From the Alert Type dropdown, select Harsh Cornering.
  6. Configure the Ignition Off Checking Duration (if applicable) to define the time window for event validation.
  7. Enter a Text Message (e.g., “Harsh cornering detected — sharp turning behavior recorded”).
  8. Configure Valid Day(s): Everyday or Custom
  9. Set Valid Time From / To (e.g., 00:00 to 23:59).
  10. Select the Timezone.
  11. Choose the Severity LevelLow, Medium, or High.
  12. Configure the Action to be taken when the alert is triggered:SMS, Email or Notification
  13. Click Save to complete the configuration.

Example / Use Case

A Harsh Cornering Alert is triggered when the tracking device detects a sudden lateral acceleration as the vehicle makes a sharp turn. For instance, if a driver takes a corner at a high speed, the device registers a high cornering magnitude, indicating aggressive driving behavior. This allows the manager to review trip reports, identify patterns of risky driving, and take corrective actions to ensure safer driving habits and reduce potential accident risks.

When Based On: Object, Object Group, or Object Type

  • Object: Select individual vehicles equipped with devices capable of detecting harsh cornering events.

  • Object Group: Select a group of vehicles to monitor collectively for cornering-related incidents.

  • Object Type: Choose a type of vehicle category (e.g., trucks, buses) that supports cornering magnitude detection.

Action

The selected alert action determines how notifications are delivered:

  • SMS: Must be configured under Admin, Reseller, or Company setup. Contact numbers can be added to receive SMS notifications.
  • Email: Add email recipients to receive harsh cornering alerts via email.
  • In-App Notification: Choose a notification sound and specify users who should be notified within the platform.
