Why is the report export not working?

Issue Title

  • Export failure

Issue Summary

A report export may fail when the selected report contains too much data, the export format or filters are not supported, the user does not have the required permission, or the system encounters an error while generating or downloading the file.

Symptoms / How to Identify

  • Export button does not respond.
  • Export process starts but does not complete.
  • Export remains in a loading or processing state.
  • Exported file is not generated.
  • Download fails or the file cannot be opened.
  • Exported file is incomplete or contains no data.
  • Export works for smaller date ranges but fails for larger ranges.
  • Export works for some reports but not others.

Information Required Before Troubleshooting

  • Vehicle/Object name or ID
  • Report name
  • Date and time range
  • Export format selected
  • Number of vehicles/records selected
  • Screenshot or error message
  • User/account from which the export was attempted
  • User permissions, if applicable
  • Whether the report itself can be viewed successfully
  • Whether export works for another report or smaller date range

Troubleshooting Steps

Check on Device

  • Confirm that the required vehicle data exists for the selected period.
  • Verify that the device transmitted data during the selected period.
  • Check for missing or abnormal data that may affect report generation.
  • If the report itself is blank, verify the device data before troubleshooting the export.

Check in System

  • Verify that the report can be generated and viewed successfully before exporting.
  • Check the selected date, time range, vehicles, filters, and parameters.
  • Verify that the user has permission to export reports.
  • Check whether the selected export format is supported.
  • Try exporting a smaller date range.
  • Try exporting fewer vehicles or records.
  • Try another supported export format, if available.
  • Check whether the export is stuck in Processing, Pending, Failed, or Completed status.
  • Try exporting another report to determine whether the issue is report-specific.
  • Check whether the issue occurs for other users.

Compare and Identify

  • Report itself does not generate: Investigate report data/configuration first.
  • Report displays correctly but export fails: Investigate the export process or system.
  • Small export works but large export fails: Investigate data volume or export limits.
  • Only one user is affected: Check permissions or user/account configuration.
  • All users are affected: Investigate the system/export service.
  • Export completes but file cannot be opened: Investigate file generation or format-related issues.

Possible Causes

  • Large date range or excessive data volume.
  • Incorrect report filters.
  • Unsupported export format.
  • Insufficient user permissions.
  • Report generation failure.
  • Export service failure.
  • System timeout.
  • Browser or download issue.
  • File generation or storage issue.
  • Report-specific processing issue.

Resolution / Action

First verify that the report can be generated and viewed correctly. Check the selected filters, date range, export format, user permissions, and data volume.

Try exporting a smaller date range or fewer vehicles to determine whether the issue is related to data volume. If the report works but the export consistently fails, escalate to the technical/system team with the report name, user details, date/time range, export format, screenshot/error message, and steps already performed.
