[FAQs](https://helpdesk.uffizio.com/knowledge/trakzee?hsLang=en#faqs) # Why is the distance shown in the report incorrect? ### **Issue Title** - Incorrect distance ### **Issue Summary** The distance shown in a report may be incorrect when the device sends inaccurate, missing, delayed, or duplicate GPS data, or when the system calculates distance using configuration, filters, or calculation rules that differ from the expected values. ### **Symptoms / How to Identify** - Reported distance does not match the actual distance travelled. - Distance in the report differs from the distance shown on the dashboard or playback. - Distance is unusually high or low. - Distance increases even when the vehicle is stationary. - Distance is missing for part of the journey. - Different reports show different distance values for the same vehicle and time period. ### **Information Required Before Troubleshooting** - Vehicle/Object name or ID - Device IMEI/Serial Number - Report name - Date and time range - Distance shown in the report - Expected/actual distance, if available - Distance shown in other system modules - Relevant **Status/Raw Data** - Vehicle/device configuration - Report filters and calculation settings - Screenshot or exported report - Whether the issue affects one vehicle or multiple vehicles ### **Troubleshooting Steps** #### Check on Device - Verify that the device was powered ON and transmitting data during the journey. - Check the GPS coordinates generated by the device throughout the trip. - Verify whether the GPS coordinates are accurate and changing correctly. - Check for duplicate, missing, or abnormal GPS points. - Verify the device's speed and odometer values, if available. - Check whether the device retransmitted stored data after a network interruption. - Verify the device configuration related to distance, GPS, and odometer parameters. #### Check in System - Verify the report's **date, time range, vehicle, and filters**. - Check the vehicle's route/history for the same period. - Compare the report distance with the distance shown in playback or trip history. - Open **Status/Raw Data** and review the GPS data used for the calculation. - Check whether GPS points are missing, duplicated, or showing abnormal jumps. - Verify the system's distance calculation method and configuration. - Check whether timezone or date-boundary settings are affecting the selected journey. - Compare the same vehicle and time period across other relevant reports. #### Compare and Identify - **Incorrect GPS data from the device:** Investigate the device, GPS signal, antenna, or configuration. - **Missing/duplicate GPS data:** Investigate device transmission or network connectivity. - **Correct raw GPS data but incorrect report distance:** Investigate system distance calculation. - **Different distance between reports:** Check the calculation method, filters, and report configuration. - **Distance is incorrect only for one vehicle:** Investigate vehicle/device-specific configuration. ### **Possible Causes** - Inaccurate GPS coordinates. - Poor GPS signal. - GPS position jumps. - Missing GPS data. - Duplicate GPS records. - Delayed or retransmitted data. - Incorrect device configuration. - Incorrect odometer/distance parameter. - Incorrect report filters or date/time range. - Different distance calculation methods. - System-side distance calculation issue. ### **Resolution / Action** Compare the **device GPS data, system history, and report distance** for the same vehicle and time period. Verify GPS accuracy, data continuity, report filters, timezone, and distance calculation settings. If the device is providing incorrect or incomplete GPS data, investigate the device and its configuration. If the raw GPS data is correct but the report calculates the wrong distance, escalate to the **technical/system team** with the vehicle ID, IMEI, report name, date/time range, GPS data, reported distance, expected distance, and relevant screenshots. -
