Why does the vehicle show as stopped when it is moving?
Issue Title
- Vehicle showing stopped while moving
Issue Summary
The vehicle may show as Stopped even when it is physically moving when the tracking device is not sending updated GPS/speed data, the reported speed is below the configured movement threshold, or the platform is not correctly interpreting the received movement data.
Symptoms / How to Identify
- Vehicle is physically moving, but the platform shows Stopped.
- Vehicle speed displays 0 or an unusually low value while moving.
- Vehicle location remains unchanged or updates infrequently.
- The vehicle switches between Moving and Stopped unexpectedly.
- GPS coordinates or speed values in Status/Raw Data do not reflect the vehicle's actual movement.
- Trip distance may not increase as expected.
Information Required Before Troubleshooting
Collect the following information:
- Vehicle/Object name or ID
- Device IMEI/Serial Number
- Device model and protocol
- Date and time when the issue occurred
- Actual vehicle status
- Speed displayed on the platform
- Latest GPS coordinates
- Latest data from the Status/Raw Data section
- Configured movement/stop speed threshold
- Whether the issue is continuous or intermittent
- Whether the issue affects one vehicle or multiple vehicles
Troubleshooting Steps
A. Check on Device
- Confirm the vehicle is physically moving.
- Check whether the device is generating a valid speed.
- Check whether GPS coordinates are changing.
- Check GPS and network connectivity.
- Verify device configuration and movement parameters.
- Check device transmission interval.
B. Check in System
- Check the latest received data/time.
- Open Status/Raw Data.
- Verify received speed and GPS values.
- Check the configured movement threshold.
- Verify the movement status displayed by the system.
- Compare raw data with the map status.
C. Compare and Identify
- Device sends zero/low speed → device/GPS issue.
- Device sends valid movement data but system shows Stopped → system configuration/calculation issue.
Possible Causes
- Device is not transmitting updated GPS data.
- Poor or intermittent GPS signal.
- Poor GSM/network connectivity.
- Device is reporting an incorrect or zero speed.
- Movement/stop speed threshold is configured incorrectly.
- Incorrect speed or movement parameter mapping.
- Device firmware or hardware issue.
- Delayed vehicle data.
- GPS coordinates are not changing correctly.
- Platform-side movement-status calculation issue.
Resolution / Action
Verify the device's latest speed and GPS coordinates and compare them with the actual vehicle movement. If the device is not sending valid movement data, investigate its GPS signal, network connectivity, configuration, firmware, or hardware. If the device is sending correct movement data but the platform still shows Stopped, escalate the issue to the technical/platform team with the vehicle ID, IMEI, timestamp, speed value, GPS coordinates, and relevant raw data.
