How to Search a Location and Calculate Driving Distance Using Navigation?

Issue Summary

The Map Search and Navigation functionality is already available in the platform on the Tracking and Playback screens.

Customers can use this feature to search for a location, area, city, or address, select it as a destination, and calculate the driving route, distance, and estimated travel time from the vehicle's current location.

To use this functionality, the map provider must be configured as OSM (OpenStreetMap) and the Navigation option must be enabled/available.

Example Questions

Example Questions

  • How can I search for a location on the tracking map?
  • Can I calculate the driving distance from my vehicle to a destination?
  • How do I find a route from the vehicle's current location to an address?
  • Is map navigation available in Trakzee?
  • How can I search for an address or city on the map?
  • Can I see the estimated travel time to a destination?
  • Why can't I see the Navigation option?
  • Can I open the route in Google Maps?

Symptoms / How to Identify

The Navigation feature can be identified by the Navigation option available on the Tracking/Playback map.

Once a destination is searched and selected, the system can display:

  • The route from the vehicle's current location to the destination.
  • Driving distance.
  • Estimated travel time.
  • Navigation instructions/route information.

The route can also be opened within the application or externally, where it can be redirected to Google Maps.

Information Required Before Troubleshooting

Before using or troubleshooting the Navigation feature, verify:

  • The user has access to the Tracking or Playback screen.
  • The map provider is configured as OSM (OpenStreetMap).
  • The Navigation option is available.
  • The vehicle has a valid/current location.
  • The required destination address, city, or location is known.

Troubleshooting Steps

  • Log in to the platform.
  • Navigate to the Tracking screen or Playback screen.

  • Verify that the map provider is configured to OSM (OpenStreetMap).
  • Locate the Navigation option on the map.
  • Click Navigation.
  • Search for the required location, area, city, or address.
  • Select the desired destination from the search results.
  • The system will calculate and display the route from the vehicle's current location to the selected destination.
  • Review the:
    • Driving route
    • Distance
    • Estimated travel time
  • If required, select In App to view the navigation within the platform.
  • Alternatively, select Open in Maps to open the route externally. The route will be redirected to Google Maps.

Possible Cause

If the Navigation option is not available or does not work as expected, possible causes include:

  • The map provider is not configured as OSM.
  • The Navigation option is not enabled/available for the user's account.
  • The vehicle does not have a valid current location.
  • The searched destination cannot be identified by the map service.
  • The user is accessing a screen where the Navigation functionality is not available.

Resolution / Action

Ensure that OSM (OpenStreetMap) is configured as the map provider and access the feature from the Tracking or Playback screen.

Then:

Navigation → Search Destination → Select Location → View Route, Distance & Travel Time

The user can choose to view the route within the application or open it externally in Google Maps.

Note: The Navigation functionality is already available in the platform; a separate Map Search feature implementation is not required for this use case.
