RPM Idling Alert

Definition / Description

The RPM Idling alert is triggered when a vehicle’s engine remains within the configured idling RPM range for an extended duration. This alert helps fleet managers or operators identify excessive idling, which can lead to unnecessary fuel consumption, increased emissions, and engine wear. Monitoring idling behavior helps promote efficient driving and reduces operational costs.

Parameters Considered (Prerequisites)

  • RPM Sensor: The connection type must be established with the RPM from the sensors connected list.
  • Idling RPM :The range of Idling must be defined, from the Sensor Calibration while adding an object.

Note: The RPM can be calibrated through Settings > General > Object > Sensors > Sensor Calibration.

How to Configure

  1. Select the appropriate Company and Branch.
  2. From the Alert Type dropdown, choose RPM Idling.
  3. Enter an Alert Name as per your preference.
  4. Configure the Duration (in seconds) for which the vehicle must remain idle within the RPM range before triggering the alert.
  5. Enter a description in the Text field (e.g., “Vehicle idling beyond permitted duration”).
  6. Configure Valid Days — choose Everyday or Custom, and specify the days if custom.
  7. Set the Valid Time From / To to define when the alert is active.
  8. Select the appropriate TimeZone.
  9. Choose the Severity Level (Low / Medium / High).
  10. Select the notification method: SMS, Email, or In-App Notification.
  11. Click Save.

Use Case

An RPM Idling alert is triggered when a vehicle’s engine remains within the calibrated idle RPM range for longer than the configured duration. Notifications are sent via SMS, Email, or In-App Notification, enabling fleet managers or operators to monitor prolonged idling behavior, take corrective action to reduce fuel wastage, and promote better engine and environmental health.

When Based On: Object, Object Group, or Object Type

  • When you select Object, a dropdown with all individual objects (vehicles) will appear. You can select specific vehicles for which you want to create this alert.
  • When you select Object Group, a dropdown listing all available object groups will appear. After selecting a group, a list of all vehicles in that group will display, allowing you to choose specific vehicles within that group.
  • When you select Object Type, a dropdown listing all object types will appear. Once you select a specific type, the associated vehicles under that type will be shown, and you can select particular vehicles for which this alert should apply.
